You have to monitor your system, do you have this problem with less ram usage?

I guess the amount of ram swap is no longer enough for smooth use. apparently firefox consumes a lot of it. can you recommend a browser that consumes less ram?

Web apps are bloated nowadays. I don’t have problem with Firefox on 4gb but I have minimal setup. Maybe replace DE with WM in the first place.

lately though, I’ve been noticing a lot of slowdowns, and the PC often gets stuck for a few seconds (sometimes 30 seconds). I don’t understand what the problem is

The fact that half your memory is in swap on the screenshot seems like a giveaway for the cause

Is your swap at least on an SSD?

Yes

Well, then it could be worse, but still, your issue seems to be low RAM.
Can’t you upgrade your device? Swapping to at least 8GB should be very cheap.

No, but until a few months ago the PC practically never crashed, now it seems that applications are heavier

Yeah, thats a great idea, sway snd i3 consume around 300 MB, while even lightweight xfce comsumes 1Gb

Really, when I was using xfce it was around 600mb.

Lxqt is lighter than xfce though
