well lvm is something specific with its own wiki page and it covers swaps as well, i suggest looking into what these are and if you actually want them before trying to enable them

hello, could someone tell me, how well nvidia optimus support currently works on arch?

If used extensively
If you write to it for years, 24/7 at max speeds, it’ll actually die
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:23:58
os-prober can’t find my Windows install on the second drive. Both Arch and Windows are installed in EFI mode. Any ideas?

Is its ESP mounted?
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:25:04
I have no clue what that means I’m honest with you

Depends on the specific hardware and driver version

Here are the available methods:

My suggestion is, go for prime render offload, and only if it doesn’t work for you, use something else

EFI system partition
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:27:21
well all I did was installed windows on one drive, install arch on the other
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:27:34
I didn’t do anything specific after that other than trying to detect windoot with os-prober
C0rn3j 2022-07-20 19:28:08
So you didn’t mount the ESP of Windows, hence grub has no idea about it.
This is assuming you enabled OS detect in grub config.
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:36:32
i cant find the windows esp
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:36:42
I did enable os-prober in grub config
supchikawai 2022-07-20 19:44:49
Anyone here know how to install playwright dependecies in arch linux?

i cant find the windows esp
the windows install doesnt have a seperate EFI partition
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 19:50:12
and mounting the boot folder doesnt help os-prober to detect the OS

Do you need grub? systemd-boot does this automatically if the files are on the same ESP.
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 20:32:47
The efi stuff is directly on the windows partition. There is no esp for windows
Samad83 2022-07-20 20:32:48
In create a label part how i know my pc is gpt or dos?

That’s not how that works.
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 20:37:39
That whole esp thing kinda confuses me right now. Back then I just installed Linux on the other drive and it just worked. Windows didn’t show up in grub but neither did the windows boot loader get wiped lol

You boot to the firmware setup and see if there is any mention of EFI/secure boot.
Unless the device is more than 11 years old, you have UEFI, and therefore shouldn’t be using MBR.

Check msinfo32 and see if it is actually installed as UEFI then.
If you don’t have ESP with Windows boot files, you do not have Windows installed as UEFI.
Samad83 2022-07-20 20:39:11
How can i boot to firmware setup? I should reboot and when opening click delete?

I checked some kind of log file which specified its efi

F2/delete, usually. Otherwise usually some F key.
*maybe* FN F2.
Check the manual if you can’t get it.
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 20:39:40
I can’t boot windows at all that’s the problem. I don’t really care about how I boot both OSs as long as I can

Aha. So you have a broken Windows install. You should’ve lead with that.
caeveemitk 2022-07-20 20:40:55
Well yea neither grub nor os-prober detected Windows but yea I should’ve lead with the fact that I can’t even boot windows via uefi
