How do I modify anything before booting?

Beep on boot should be set up in your UEFI Setup

It shouldn’t relate to ISO version.

btw, by the loudness of it i think it’s the main speaker of the laptop

on laptops beeper is usually just a software (in-bios) hook to the main speakers

yes, in my other desktops where there is a beep speaker on the motherboard the sound is not so disturbing and very low

well, on my thinkpad it is also a bit fucked up, so no sound is actually produced (at least under arch), but it tries 😀

After adding ovpn config files you can edit configs in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections
