There’s nothing dangerous in formatting apart losing the data

About a year ago I tried to format a partition of my HDD as NTFS in Linux. It stuck for hours and I killed the process. The HDD was usable apart that broken partition, I formatted the partition after a while and my HDD completely died and became all useless. (The HDD was old and I didn’t really care about it)
That’s why I’m worried about. It may have been a coincidence. idk

the disk was defective, so the format hung, not the opposite

But it worked like a clock before the format?

il_muflone 2022-08-10 14:09:55
format operation only writes a bunch of MB in the disk, nothing more
il_muflone 2022-08-10 14:10:27
what you do everyday is more heavy for your disk

bspwm
– easy to understand
– easy to configure
– simple

Thanks, I’ll watch a video on it

You should read its documentation instead

i am facing an issue with microphone detection.
Pulseaudio + Alsa
Pavucontrol shows this: https://imgur.com/a/CjpzsuX

Some stuff I ran, with their outputs:
Output of pacmd list-cards: https://pastebin.com/2KaGBhY4
pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_2c_00.3 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo
Failure: No such entity
/etc/pulse/default.pa: https://pastebin.com/RkWYQUtP
lsmod | grep hda: https://pastebin.com/Pm8Dgw6j

That’s all the relevant info, i guess. If anything else is needed please ask for it.

Analog Stereo Output was selected by default
I’ve changed it to Duplex now though

jonathn 2022-08-10 16:20:58
So does it work now?
TheSidharthaRao 2022-08-10 16:21:10
nope
jonathn 2022-08-10 16:21:19
Which bit doesn’t work?
TheSidharthaRao 2022-08-10 16:21:46
one sec, lemme do a dry run once more, then telling
TheSidharthaRao 2022-08-10 16:23:27
the microphone bit, output works
jonathn 2022-08-10 16:25:40
Which part of “the microphone bit” doesn’t work? In what way doesn’t it work?

there’s no input of sound, simply. When I say something, there’s no response/recording/detection

jonathn 2022-08-10 16:27:13
Load alsamixer and make sure the input isn’t muted

i’m not used to using that, can you tell me how to?

jonathn 2022-08-10 16:27:53
Also make sure you’re connecting the mic to an audio input jack

Open a terminal, type alsamixer, press enter, then use the cursor and function keys to move around, M to mute/unmute.

ok, so apparantly when I connect a external microphone, it works(example, the mic of my earphones) but the inbuilt doesn’t

jonathn 2022-08-10 16:31:56
Obvious question, does the machine actually have an internal mic?

yes it does, and it isn’t damaged either

jonathn 2022-08-10 16:32:45
Enabled in the BIOS/UEFI?
TheSidharthaRao 2022-08-10 16:33:20
well, not sure about that
Parra 2022-08-10 16:33:37
um so, i think i did something stupid

now i have invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature) for some of my packages

TheSidharthaRao 2022-08-10 16:33:38
I don’t actually know where to check
Parra 2022-08-10 16:34:14
oh i did that
let me try the second one

is there a chance it will shit the bed?

Few years ago I did an update on my main pc with novideo gpu and kde probably after something like 3 months

ufoludek 2022-08-10 16:35:49
And the update went pretty well, so go ahead and update

If you’re running amd or intel (mesa in general) the chances of arch shitting itself are basically none
ufoludek 2022-08-10 16:38:36
All the issues I had with arch were usually relate with nvidia
