Does this mean it wont notify a user duly about which one it’s downloading from?

Less than useless considering this is all of the information on the project besides the team page.

“Amethyst is a fast, efficient and lightweight AUR helper and Pacman wrapper.”

If so then seems like a bad idea.

What should I know before Vanilla Arch Installation

I looked at their github. What they’ve basically done is that they just have an automatic GUI installer (which is a good idea, but they could do the same just for arch), a cli/tui tool for doing the same thing as archinstall, another wrapper/package manager, a budgie DE fork.
Overall, it looks like the same thing as EndeavourOS. For me, at least

PuzzDio 2022-08-31 20:35:25
What’s the appeal of “arch based” OS’s?
If you want Arch surely you’d just go for arch, otherwise go use something more tailored for whatever purpose you have.

That you have to install it all by yourself or with archinstall. The main difference between arch and endeavour is that they have a different approach of installing and maganing linux kernels. Arch doesn’t usually store old kernel versions (only their packages in pacman cache), it only has different versions of them like Linux-lts and linux-zen, while the endev’s approach is to store them and show them clearly to the user when booting GRUB

“easy for beginners”, and then they come here for some reason, not knowing the difference between EFI and MBR, for example, when their bootloader breaks 😂

I’ve noticed they end up coming here because their groups heavily lack any kind of support, based on what they say before they get warned for not reading the rules

Probably. I haven’t seen that in chats by myself, but I was the one who experienced the lack of it by myself in HoloISO’s github.

omg crystals live disc immediately boots up GNOME and the first thing I see is when GNOME starts at the “pick a workspace” screen that is one of the reasons i switched to plasma
JF049 2022-08-31 20:45:02
“pick a workspace” screen?
JF049 2022-08-31 20:45:48
You mean, the “Activities” one? (when the desktop gets smaller and the dock shows up from below)

Yeah if you pres meta/super on gnome is does a whole Windows 8 style full screen zoom-out and you see all your workspaces, gnome boots up like this rather than into the workspace 1 desktop

That’s the default behavior since there are no foreground UI apps running.

It does so even if you have apps on startup, it become very annoying. But who knows maybe theyve fixed that.
I suppose i should stop now, off-topic

JF049 2022-08-31 20:47:35
That’s OK, I wouldn’t prefer that too when I’d have a bottom panel like in KDE/Windows

Well i used dd to write the arch iso to my usb stick a few days ago.. turns out 4am is a bad time for that and i wrote it to my external 1tb nvme

Oof. That’s. . . That sucks, I’m sorry to hear that for sure

Tried for a long time with all the usual tools and couldn’t recover partition table or anything really, it was all encrypted.
Self inflicted so hopefully i’ve learnt my lesson now after the 4th time doing this in 10 years 😂

Ya. . . Don’t encrypt? Don’t dd? Don’t. . . . Ah. Well I guess there’s better or more redundant backups??

By the 4th time I could see it going either way. 1st time you’re furious

Something I’ve considered doing, but haven’t really implemented, is leaving 5GB or so free at the start of any device – that way if I do dd to it then it loses the partition table but doesn’t lose the data (and re-creating the partition table should be straightforward as long as I remember the start sector or amount of empty space…)

That’s pretty clever, assumes whatever you’re imaging is no bigger than 5gb though right?

TittySkittle 2022-08-31 22:12:18
Or I guess it gives you 5GB worth of time to cancel
