rEFInd has stopped to replace %v with the kernel flavor, while refind_linux.conf has
extra_kernel_version_strings “linux-lts,linux”
il_muflone 2022-08-31 23:24:51
during the startup claims the initramfs-%v.img is not found but editing by hand the command line and replacing %v with linux everything boots fine

rEFInd is a seperate bootloader right? Ignore this, I’ll google.

Hey guys, I did a system-update this morning and now my grub is gone, but also my /home is screwed up (bad superblocks?) It’s a mess with ext4 (home) and btrfs subvolumes and I have no clue how to get my /home data back. Would be nice to have Arch and grub back, but I can live with a fresh install.
The pin in this chat about grub-install …. 🤷♂️ I have no idea. Maybe it has something to do with the btrfs partition/subvolumes? When I arch-chroot (after mounting root, boot/efi and swap (I can’t mount home because of superblock errors) I’m in a fresh OS, so no grub-install and a lot of pacman errors/issues.

you simply have to reinstall grub in the efi like you hopefully made the first time
maddieclaire 2022-08-31 23:55:54
I think you can arch-chroot into the install and run the commands like said in https://archlinux.org/news/grub-bootloader-upgrade-and-configuration-incompatibilities/
maddieclaire 2022-08-31 23:56:53
You will also have to mount boot onto /boot/EFI or whatever the boot partition is.
AlfredIV 2022-08-31 23:57:07
yeah, if it was that simple I wasn’t asking it here. It looks like I can’t mount my /root or something 🤷♂️

Are you using LUKS?
AlfredIV 2022-08-31 23:57:38
yeah that might do the trick, I tried to mount /dev/sda1 (EFI) to /mnt/boot, not /mnt/boot/EFI
AlfredIV 2022-08-31 23:57:48
no, no LUKS
maddieclaire 2022-08-31 23:57:54
Ah ok.
AlfredIV 2022-08-31 23:58:45
and my how to install is on my /home 😅
maddieclaire 2022-08-31 23:59:18
You need to mount /home too?
AlfredIV 2022-08-31 23:59:55
but, if I mount /root (/dev/sda4) to /mnt/ then I should be able to see all my pacman packages right? it looks all gone 🤷♂️

Depends on how the partitions are set up. If you have multiple partitions, might want to do fdisk -l

I guess not for reinstalling grub, but for some reason.. I’m not sure where I stored my timeshift snapshots 😱
AlfredIV 2022-09-01 00:01:24
I’ll try again…

Did you chrooted after mounting?

That reminds me, I have to buy a external SSD or HDD for backup 😅

proxer05 2022-09-01 00:01:31
Did you chrooted after mounting?
yes, first I made the dir in /mnt, then I mounted the subvol + partitions and then I arch-chroot the root under: /mnt

at least someone smileys 😜
proxer05 2022-09-01 00:03:51
Weird
AlfredIV 2022-09-01 00:14:47
Well, mounting /boot under /mnt/boot/EFI didn’t do the trick, but I saw some grub files.. 🤷♂️
Let me try a newer installation, because of the pacman errors (pgp keys), first.

might require portforwarding if you are going to literally stream it like a radio station
maddieclaire 2022-09-01 00:16:12
(Might be better to ask elsewhere)

Anywhere that isn’t related to Arch Linux. You could try the guild tavern.
