How can I provide examples of things running on your system?

Arch is like McLaren
Similar as other supercars but better than most of them
Most of the its part easily available
Have best instructions for car
Gentoo is like F1

You can’t compare it like that

PuzzDio 2022-09-08 14:23:43
Yeah I wanna see this unfold in Off-Topic chat

Yes
I think this comparison ain’t no good for this topic

Waltz 2022-09-08 14:24:55
Totally arch can’t be used as an embedded tool?

Arch Linux is better than other distros because it gives more freedom than other distros in true sense

Better is a subjective thing!

I assume you have read articles online like “10 reasons why Arch Linux is good”.

Yes
I think this comparison ain’t no good for this topic

I mean
Arch has better community
Best user manual in the world
Huge repo
And gives you a total freedom

While gentoo has small community
Doesn’t has repo wiki like arch

No it was just a saying
My concern is
Mostly in my experience Gentoo was used to load a C++ program’s executable file on a Gentoo linux
Can arch be like that?

PuzzDio 2022-09-08 14:28:20
A more semi on-topic question:

Any Gamers here? If so has anyone managed to get Destiny 2 working on Arch?

Hi guys. I’m having high temperature peaks each 30 – 40 sec in my laptop with no resource-consuming processes running. Average temperature is 48ºC aprox but suddenly increases to 65ºC for 1 sec and it drops again. I have installed “lm_sensors” and “acpi”. Does anyone know what is going on?

Sounds like your CPU is thermal-throttling, your cooling solution might be at fault.

Haven’t heard of it except in aviation school!

Something is running every 30-40 seconds, perhaps a file indexer or monitoring software (like conky). Watch the output of e.g.top to see what’s running.

Really? CPU’s often throttle if they get to hot and go beyond their threshold until they get cool enough.

Ldx211 2022-09-08 14:30:56
if its fail, final approach is always, shutdown

There’s a program like Everything on windows 💩

PuzzDio 2022-09-08 14:32:33
But I think @jonathn has the best first-option to look into, look at top/htop whatever you use.
If you find nothing peaking, I’d suggest looking into your cooling

the most cpu-consumming processes are (in order): Xorg, qtile, picom, alacritty, telegram-desktop, kworker, systemd

Protondb is the place to check

vexedmoth 2022-09-08 14:34:56
do not exceed 2% CPU

OK, is there something running periodically? Total CPU use won’t tell you that.

vexedmoth 2022-09-08 14:35:45
as far as I know qtile widgets

I’m asking here because ProtonDB states it’s borked (they say it’s due to BattlEye but BattlEye has made a statement already that they have linux support) so im asking if anyones gotten around Bungie’s foolishness

vexedmoth 2022-09-08 14:36:39

as far as I know qtile widgets

they are monitoring CPU temp, CPU usage and RAM each 10 secs

If something was periodically spiking CPU use leading to a temperature increase then it would appear momentarily in top. You shouldn’t have to guess.

vexedmoth 2022-09-08 14:37:59
the real problem is that every time it exceeds this peak temperature the ventilation system is activated, but it is deactivated after 6 or 7 seconds.
vexedmoth 2022-09-08 14:38:20
and is a bit annoying
jonathn 2022-09-08 14:38:57
Oh wait – so this is just that your laptop is running around the cooling threshold? There’s no solution to that other than cool the laptop, or alter the fan profile
PuzzDio 2022-09-08 14:39:38
Depending on the laptop, you can replace the thermal paste
jonathn 2022-09-08 14:39:49
i.e. it cools down to 48C, fans turn off, temperature slowly increases, fans come on, repeat

I changed the thermal paste 1 month ago haha

PuzzDio 2022-09-08 14:40:34
On the off chance, is it for sure the CPU? Not a potentional GPU issue?

yes, that is exactly what is happening

Here

You very much misunderstood the design ideology behind the arch linux logo. The hole in the bottom represents a head, the bottom of the arch linux logo is shaped like a person
