Exactly, this is why many people hate systemd, it doesn’t follow unix’s mantra of do one thing and do it well. Basically systemd isn’t actually just an init… it handles dns resolving, logs, timed tasks, init, encryption, home directories, system users, temporary files and directories, etc, etc, etc.

That’s the reason I use it. Because it offers several things.. Mainly I enjoy the init and journal. That makes most sense.

If you do not install a fresh artix with a full configuration you have to think about many things.. Cronjob, logging, time,….
nocturn9x 2022-08-13 10:44:11
well well well
nocturn9x 2022-08-13 10:44:19
if it isn’t my least favorite people of all time
lordV 2022-08-13 10:45:51
Beside this I was not able to debug my hibernation because on wakeup kernel errors never reached the logfile.. Journal was able to log it.

Actually its alway a question of time and will to learn.. But in one moment I saw I don’t have the time to deal with all these things..
After this my hate for systemd basically stopped 😁

Why did you have hate in the first place?

mainly the philosophy of it. but on the other side.. not everyone is a perfect system administrator.. without it a huge part of the community would not be able to use linux “easily”

busybox is quite easy to use

lordV 2022-08-13 13:25:19
i never got in touch with it

someone could probably make a simple wrapper for all of the init systems that artix offers that someone who uses systemd could use easily

well yeah

Spektrum_light 2022-08-13 13:28:48
but that kinda defeats the point of switching inits
Rougreh 2022-08-13 13:29:16
no because you are still not using the monolithic and huge init system
