oh wait what are germs in this context?
So it has no cell differentiation?
(are these things called like that?
Sounds sinister… Which parts of math it is, geometry or topology probably?

You germinate spores; you take it through all other stages up to fruiting; you search for populations with needed traits, collect their spores, repeat the process
I meant the germs, not the fungi

grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:17:10
I think you don’t quite understand how fungi work… Two spores meet – they make diploid kernel – that’s a germination
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:17:15
I thought about the bacteria

ok the whole time I was thinking about the wrong thing
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:17:46
pardon
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:18:00
After two spores form a cell with complete genes set, they start to multiply and become a mycelium
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:18:46
Mycelium is a giant organism, you can take any piece of it and it will grow into the exact copy of donor in the right conditions

I never did; But I knew this kind of process, except that it’s called germination
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:19:22
This is cloning, obviously… Isolating is picking the populations with needed traits and harvesting their spores until you get what you want

ever
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:20:04
except random mutations
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:20:24
Like you have one pop with big hats and three with small; you pick spores from big hats, grow them, got two with big hats and two with small
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:20:37
Rinse and repeat
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:20:46
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:19:49
So it has no cell differentiation?
No
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:21:16
is it like always a single multicore cell or bundles of multicore cells
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:21:44
(are these things called like that?)
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:23:07
I don’t quite understand a question
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:23:22
ok the question is dismissed then
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:24:50
Spores are haploid, they have one nucleus and one set of chromosomes; when they germinate, they form a dicaryotic cell with two nuclei and two set of chromosomes; then it becomes a single diploid cell with one nucleus and two sets of chromosomes
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:25:18
Then it just divides until it forms a mycelium
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:25:25
ah fuck I called nuclei by “cores”
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:25:52
I call them kernel, cores, nuclei, whatever first come to mind
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:26:03
ahahahah
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:26:08
Unless it’s the convo with serious people of course
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:26:28
I don’t want to look as that guy who even doesn’t know the proper names
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:26:45
fun part we have things called germs in math
wardenunit 2022-08-14 23:27:09
but I didn’t think about that until now
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:27:25
Math is such an obscure thing, I can’t think about it without a headache
grakata_clem 2022-08-14 23:27:43
Even tristate lifecycle of molds is easier

nah

fun part we have things called germs in math
basically a little surface piece from which several type of objects “grow”
