Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:43:16

Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:43:31
when I can easily reach 100, 70 is cool
Solrac00 2022-08-16 07:43:34
Ahh on load is ok
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:43:34
._.
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:43:48
so disable turbo boost = ok?
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:44:00
because I am thinking of running gentoo and I don’t want my pc to burn
Solrac00 2022-08-16 07:44:09
I mean, it depends on what you do
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:44:20
will it break the system

I gave up, too much heating
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:44:37
disable turbo boost 🙂
Solrac00 2022-08-16 07:45:21
And if I use -j1 it takes years to compile neofetch

What do you think is the right one?
That’s your decision. Gentoo wiki has some info and a comparision table between several inits that you can check out. Obviously, only a couple apply to Artix. Questions to ponder: dependencies between services? How to start/stop? How to create? etc.
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:46:23
-j4 with turbo boost disabed
Rougreh 2022-08-16 07:46:28
hyper threading is still on tho 😀

This is the only distro I installed on this PC, so did not tested. But I did used an Fedora ISO image, it have the same problem, it freezes even faster. But Windows (a win to go) runs okay
If you are on the current ‘linux’ kernel package, you may want to try ‘linux-lts’ instead. Also ensure your system is up to date.

I watched s6 video explanation and the definition of init system seemed reasonable imo, and s6 was the right option for me

hope it was a recent video by a reputable youtuber. Lots of incorrect information out there

The s6 supervision suite A modern alternative to systemd –
YouTubeby Laurent Bercot (skarnet)
At: FOSDEM 2017
s6 is the most modern of the “daemontools family” of process supervisionsuites. It is used to provide lightweight multi-service container images, orextremely fast init systems on real machines – smaller, simpler, faster, andmore reliable than systemd. This presentation explains what processsupervision is, why it is a good pattern to have, how s6 implements it and howyou can use it to your advantage.
What does sysvinit do? Why are gettys treated differently in /etc/inittab?What is process supervision? What is s6 and how does it work? What is aservice manager? How can I use s6 today to run my services? How can weoverthrow systemd and rule the world?
All these questions find their answers in this lightning talk!

thoughts on f2fs vs exfat?
Never got trouble but recently my fs got fucked twice with f2fs, it seems there is a bug in the garbage collector (it is fixed upstream but not released yet)
Why the fuck do you even consider exfat?

exfat because it’s an sd card or usb or external ssd
Rougreh 2022-08-16 09:03:55
f2fs is also for them right?
Rougreh 2022-08-16 09:04:05
so i wanted to know which is better
Rougreh 2022-08-16 09:07:49
ext4 on an external ssd seems stupid
farseerfc 2022-08-16 09:09:40
sdcards and USB thumbsticks are different thing from ssd (from the point of view of the flash controller

Not really, ext4 is really good on most drives

They don’t have translation layer?
farseerfc 2022-08-16 09:13:30
sdcards are required by the sdcard spec to work with exfat(or fat32 based on the specific standard followed). USB drives are (mostly) SD cards with a different interface (USB Mass storage controller). f2fs is designed to mimic the layout and read / write pattern of exfat , to accommodate a poorly implemented FTL usually found in sdcards/mmcblk/ufs .
