Well I was harsh but I think he was right this time

btw, his point was just that on disk the package would be the same installed. no shit, there are tons of distros that copy packages between them and that the package will look the same installed on disk. I told him that endeavour could have 99% of the packages coming from arch, would still be unsupported. and then he claimed it was not about support.
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:26:31
so all that for: hey, installed packages on disk look the same

lol, you’re too generous calling that a debate
Yeah, a debate requires 2 intelligent parties discussing a topic… I only witnessed half the requires parties.

Does artix install any helper by default?
We don’t install them by default, no but they are easier to get installed than in Arch since in Arch they are in AUR and need to be built.
lordV 2022-08-19 20:31:12
what kind of helper?
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:31:28
lordV 2022-08-19 20:31:12

AUR’s
ChrisCromer 2022-08-19 20:31:39
I personally am not a fan of it, too many noobs not realizing the dangers of the AUR and using helpers…
lordV 2022-08-19 20:31:49
helpers like YAY?

True, but sticking a helper in our repos is like handing a gun to a brain dead infant…

which is why, one of the first things archinstall got rid of, before getting into the iso, was to remove the yay installation it did.

What was this thing he was saying about the original dev abandoning the project btw?

He said that the arch team “bullied” the arch gui developer into abandoning the project. The truth is much different.
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:50:11
We asked them to change the name a long time ago, they didn’t reply. Asked again. Then they created a ticket on our gitlab repo for trademark requests asking to use the name.
qontinuum 2022-08-19 20:50:44
Ah xD
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:50:46
We denied, for obvious reasons. Not only he used Arch in the name, but claimed to install “vanilla” Arch, which was not true as arch gui has their own repos too
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:51:29
Then instead of changing the name, like many others did (Arco Linux comes to mind), he decided to abandon the project and then make youtube videos with just part of the history
qontinuum 2022-08-19 20:52:04
I am pretty sure he uses Artix now

Who? The Arch GUI dev?
qontinuum 2022-08-19 20:53:46
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:52:40
Who? The Arch GUI dev?
Yeah xD
It was a joke but it looks like the path from being banned from the Arch group and ending up using Artix just to be in the group and insult Arch community
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:54:20
To be fair, he didn’t insult the arch community, nor our leader (who was the one that asked him).
grazzolini 2022-08-19 20:54:31
But he also didn’t tell the whole history in his video.
AndrewBenn 2022-08-19 20:58:19
demonkiller was interviewed by someone about his Arch Linux GUI project and it’s end. Brodie maybe? demonkiller talked about talking to Levente and the asks/demands.

He claimed that he asked for the trademark usage, but left out the fact he was first asked to change the name
