I’m assuming artix doen’t patch pacman
ChrisCromer 2022-08-29 20:00:31
Considering that all the “operations” are with capital letters(help excluded)… by not having a capital it won’t do anything at all.

We don’t.

Makes sense. I think hooks is where you’d have issues, not pacman itself
Spektrum_light 2022-08-29 20:01:14
man exwm might be considered a joke, but it feels comfy

Correct. Pacman itself isn’t dependent on systemd. But certain hooks are.
wxlfsangel 2022-08-29 20:01:36
Haven’t heard of that one
wxlfsangel 2022-08-29 20:02:58
Oh wow even has floating windows

I’ll not surprise if one day pacman depends on it

Systemd replaces so much things that I wonder why Lennart just doesn’t write a kernel himself or make it something like busybox and create a separate OS

It could happen at any moment. For example netctl won’t work without systemd.
ChrisCromer 2022-08-29 20:10:58
netctl is an Arch Linux project of course…

Maybe that is what he is doing now that he works for Microsoft.😏

Windows with systemd coming soon

every common OS uses something like systemd: macos uses launchd, windows svchost, and they just need to mess up linux lol

when did busybox became an OS ?
it’s the best option for initrd and just around 1 mb of standalone binary.

I didn’t say it is an OS, it’s an example of bunch of OS core utils packed together to allow actual interaction with it
Spektrum_light 2022-08-29 21:18:23
busybox is my favorite piece of software
Spektrum_light 2022-08-29 21:18:45
maybe even toybox, but I marvel at busybox
Rougreh 2022-08-29 21:20:32
does anyone here use alpine linux?
