no timestamp or does it show any?
qontinuum 2022-08-30 13:45:12
You could put your cache and profile on a tmpfs with noatime :y
lordV 2022-08-30 13:45:42
only time of creation i think, right?
qontinuum 2022-08-30 13:45:50
lordV 2022-08-30 13:45:02
noatime.. if you use dolphin or Thunar.. -> what does it show?
It is only the access ones that aren’t shown, not the write and creation ones

linux doesn’t deserve powerful hardware

actually LFS itself is a good learning process
Not really, you can just copy and paste it without really learning anything unless you’re paying attention

there is als lazytime .. sounds like a good compromise
lanciagreggori 2022-08-30 13:50:49
lordV 2022-08-30 13:39:45
you use it?
you should definitely use it for SSD, see my previous messages, said the same thing to another guy
lordV 2022-08-30 13:51:25
“The fact that the “noatime” option is a must for SSDs is now considered obsolete.”
qontinuum 2022-08-30 13:51:31
Isn’t lazytime just for some fs?
lordV 2022-08-30 13:51:54
Two new mount options therefore combine performance with functionality and make “noatime” superfluous: “relatime” has been the default setting since kernel 2.6.30. Linux uses it to update the atime only if the file has changed. A new option in kernel 4.0 is “lazytime” . It holds updates in memory that are later flushed along with other changes.
lanciagreggori 2022-08-30 13:53:26
Also @Rougreh one thing I forgot to mention is that noatime, nodiratime doesn’t mean that access time won’t be updated at all, it means with really frequent accesses the timestamp won’t be updated, if some time has passed the timestamp will be updated

I have a sata gen2 ssd which is nowhere near as fast as an nvme
2022-08-30 13:54:57
so I have to consider every aspect regarding disk latency/throughput such as the I/O scheduler

Yeah I never translate to French because it is broken, translation are always much more reliable to English, even more for German I guess
