No discrimination involved, you are factually two retards

I’ll have you know that the word “retard” is hatespeech

michael_pines 2022-09-10 16:04:21
OK, waiting on that.
And thanks for the heads-up

Just use http. You don’t need ssl for the package repo.

I’m not too desperate, but yeah. I remember back when, I think, all Arch without-systemd repos were http. And that was fine with me.
So thanks for the answer, too. Will do!

https in this case offers no extra protection, all packages are signed, so a MITM attack is impossible since the packages won’t be signed by our keys.

Well, I am sitting on a 2021 snapshot of the archive; having some issues with the keyring alright. Just delaying the inevitable -Syu, really
But again, thanks for the tip. Https is just there to obscure comms from the third parties, but it doesn’t offer any greater protection from MITM than plain http does

2021? Why?

2021? Why?

Well, that’s when I last did a fresh install

qontinuum 2022-09-10 16:33:00
And HTTP has absolutely no protection so yeah, HTTPS improves the MITM protection a lot
JD [0/4💉] 2022-09-10 16:33:03
Anyway im still chasing my weird encoding issue. It seems to work fine on both systems

So you installed and never updated? Why do you use a rolling? O.o

Well, because there is no system like Arch out there 😉

Gaming pc + i7 = segfault
NAS pc + i5 = ?

Then i swapped CPUs:
Gaming PC + i5 = ok
NAS pc + i7 = ok

So it was the CPU + system comfiguration that gave me segfaults? Might need to look around in the BIOS settings

Checking that the certificate is the right one before downloading files can prevent MITM attacks. Just because you don’t check doesn’t mean it can’t protect from that.

ChrisCromer 2022-09-10 16:38:51
Obviously an attacker would have a fake or no certificate.
