Have anyone here migrated from debian to arch or artix? How long it took you?

Migration from Arch isn’t recommended, from Debian it is even less recommended
Better going from a fresh install

I mean “migration” in terms of understanding how the system works here, how to fix it and stuff.

They aren’t drastically different, learn how package manager and init works and you’re good

Oh, from Arch to Artix it is pretty simple since you just have to understand the differences that are documented on our wiki
From Debian it can be a bit more complicated but not that much in the end

Ananyl 2022-09-17 21:26:30
And of course fresh install is the best option, not even arguing with it

Openrc and pacman man and wiki pages are pretty good, so I got used quickly

Why so? Openrc use sysvinit as base, potentially can speed up loading by multi thread startup

Ananyl 2022-09-17 21:32:06
Seen it somewhere in wiki

in general as long as you don’t use systemd, you are fine to go

Multithreading is still experimental in OpenRC

It has some mechanisms that look like sysv

By default, OpenRC is invoked by sysvinit, on Gentoo.

grakata_clem 2022-09-17 21:42:23
Though they are slowly moving from it, iirc, with the introduction of sysv-utils USE flag

Kind of offtopic, but why there is “No Luke” in stickers of the group? Though he is also anti-systemd or something

invoking sysvinit is different than using it as a base
