Already works standalone, don’t need a replacement.

does it call eboot?

And before that gummi boot.
ItsZariep 2022-09-21 05:36:51
nobody ask me, but i use direct kernel boot 👍
UnicornBl00d 2022-09-21 05:37:22
I wonder how many rust based replacement programs I need to make before the community starts to hate me saying stuff like they say about systemd

I used to do that with gentoo.

Just 1. Remaking software in rust always brings out the haters.

UnicornBl00d 2022-09-21 05:38:13
make rusted-init include a GUI calculator application using RTK (Rust Tool Kit) that can’t be removed

bootctl alternative for non-systemd distrosreddit
Systemd based distributions have systemd-boot which is crazy fast as compared to grub of refind. And having a bootloader for non-systemd distros…

Lacks firmware, won’t have various security patches for things like meltdown and spectre because they are not libre, etc. Just leaving security holes open like that is a no go for me.

Artix Linux Gitea
Artix Linux self-hosted git repositories

gotcha. i think their guides tell you to choose your own kernel, so i guess that would fix that issue if you wanted to be 99% libre and have those patched?

Nope, because the issues are outside the kernel. Spectre and meltdown require binary blobs known as microcode which fix the hole which is at the hardware level.

FWIW, distrowatch says otherwise. https://distrowatch.com/search.php?ostype=All&category=All&origin=All&basedon=All&notbasedon=None&desktop=All&architecture=All&package=Pacman&rolling=Fixed&isosize=All&netinstall=All&language=All&defaultinit=All&status=Active#simple

cant you get those fixes through your BIOS?

You can’t have it both ways… Its either libre or its missing software and has open security holes.

Nope, the fixes are through microcode.

ChrisCromer 2022-09-21 05:53:01
Basically the fixes block access to the vulnerable functionality of the CPU. So the CPU is slower now with the microcode patches.
