OK… and what were you doing when you saw the “no root to host” error?

if something goes wrong ill get back to stable version
gnutechie 2022-07-19 11:33:33
I would suggest to use a VM in that case… it’s much cleaner… if it doesn’t work you can delete it and start over if need be.
according to this page: https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/plasma-desktop

Plasma is in version 5.24 in Debian Bookworm (current testing)

i have installed debian testing, i have installed it with xfce, now i want to ask, Gnome-core vs kde vs GNOME which will be a better choice, i am comfortable with all , i have 4gb ram.
Intel hd graphics (since processor is Intel’s 2nd generation family)
Cpu Pentium B950 dual core processor from 2011

gnutechie 2022-07-19 11:59:11
on GNOME3 and with an integrated graphics chipset it’s more of a Wayland session vs Xorg X11 session… to see which fits your hardware better…

Okay, will try both

and with an integrated graphics chipset (which probably shares some of that 4GBs I assume) things get a bit more complex… I’d be going with something like either MATE or LXQt simply because you need to conserve as many resources as possible… or upgrade your RAM so you don’t have to worry too much about it. You can’t do much about your processor unless you find a top of the line 2nd Gen i7 (if it’s an option for your motherboard…) but then we’re going into different territories.

Motherboard can’t be upgraded, i seen that, so xfce, lxqt will be better?

Better on resources. Perhaps not as pretty or fancy as GNOME3 but will probably fit the hardware better. Do a comparison between XFCE, LXQt and GNOME3…if one of them feels snappier and easier on the system then the other 2 then the best fit has been found…I would include MATE as well since it’s one of the mid-weights when it comes to resources… perhaps you might not be able to get used to it… but pretty much any of the 3 (XFCE LXQt and MATE) are customizable.

My 2 cents. With only 4GB ran stick to lighter weight DE such as Mate, Xfce. Xfce is probably my goto choice just because of the international support vs mate. Both have great resource management. Mate only lacks in international support, I.e. locales, etc.

but system is installing updates

in /var there are the packages downloaded before installation… rename /var/cache/apt to .old & create /home/apt & symlink it to /var/cache/apt move all contents from .old to the new /var/cache/apt … you should free some 10G during big versions updates
