Debian 10.13 released and 11.5 still under testing and will be released later today or tommorow
bittin1 2022-09-10 16:35:15
you can update to both via apt now, but ISOs are still work in progress
MrDeplorableUSA 2022-09-10 19:16:14
FYI, ran update on 5 systems here (1 Debian Bullseye(<Intel based laptop> and 4<1 AMD based tower, 1 AMD based HP laptop and 2 Intel based laptops> running Pure Blend DebianEDU<SkoleLinux>) only one had issues, AMD based HP 15-g018dx lost function of WiFi key on/off as well as all FN + F#, solution was to reinstall amd64-microcode pkg from apt connected with Ethernet.
MrDeplorableUSA 2022-09-10 20:23:52
hardware question for someone that might have info(Debian 11 OS on both laptops) can you swap an AMD based WiFi BC43228 WiFi from a Lenovo into an Intel based HP system which has RTL8188EE? The cards look “alike” in physical appearance.

only asking as my daughters HP with the RTL8188EE has horribly weak WiFi signal(it does not support dual antenna either) and Neither does my wifes Lenovo with the BCM43228, but the BCM never has an issue with WiFi signal.

Debian 11.5 is done tested now, and now we are starting to test 10.13
gnutechie 2022-09-10 22:40:29
Are both of the wifi cards of the same kind? Have a look at their specs and make sure they’re both alike in terms of protocols.
gnutechie 2022-09-10 22:40:46
(ie pcie, mini-pcie etc etc)

physically the look identical except for labels obviously.

(ie pcie, mini-pcie etc etc)
the HP cards output:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:8179] (rev 01)
DeviceName: Focus
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company RTL8188EE mini-PCIe card [103c:197d]
the Lenovos card output:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:4359]
Subsystem: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:0607]
Kernel driver in use: bcma-pci-bridge
The HP specifies mini-PCIe and the Lenovo only specifies pci-bridge.
What else could I check to determine compatibility?

Hi all. I just installed Debian Stable 11.4 Xfce edition. My laptop is HP 15s Eq series (Ryzen 3 5300u)
Now I’m missing WiFi and display resolution is very low. I installed those non-free fw files using separate usb but after installation, I can’t find WiFi networks.
gnutechie 2022-09-11 12:32:22
what’s the wifi nic reported by lspci?

ok your wifi is a Realtek RTL8822CE and you need to install firmware-realtek to get it to work.

ok I’m at a loss now. I installed 11.5 updates on my daughters HP 15-g018dx. all seemed well after reinstalling amd64-microcode to get the interaction of turning WiFi on/off with FN key on F12 gave it a reboot this morning and it will not re-enable the WiFi . rfkill list shows nothing, ran rkill unblock all still nothing. lspci obviously won’t even show the WiFi card and I see nothing in the BIOS to enable/disable WiFi on boot.
Am I missing something?
Update: So, for some reason a post I seen in forums suggested shutdown, remove battery for a few mins, put it back boot and set BIOS time, low and behold the WiFi was re-enabled upon boot and connected as soon as I logged in.
Geez.

Does minor version number only apply for the installer DVD, because $cat /etc/os-release reports the version to be simply Debian 11?

yeah but if you run apt update; apt upgrade; apt dist-upgrade; apt full-upgrade you will get 11.5

See this

And, unofficial installation images for stable with firmware included
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/current/
Which one should I prefer?? Testing or stable-fw. Which would automatically solve these issues. Does testing contain non free fw??

Can this be used on debian testing? I switched from stable to testing recently, so i just wanna make sure that it wont cause errors.

Official Debian release do NOT include non-free firmware. You have to get the non-free firmware versions OR, during and after install use an Ethernet, then add the non-free repos and use something like isenkram to have it search for the firmware packages etc.

To update the repository indices:

sudo apt upgrade
to do a full distro update
sudo apt full-upgrade

I was wrong. cat /etc/debian_version shows 11.5 👍

Reason: i force closed kvm while a guest machine was running.
And clicked on shutdown (host, my pc)
