Hello folks. I’m coming up with a new pseudo-academic article on the history and origins of FLOSS Unix-like systems.
Would you re-read it and tell me what you think ? It’s short.

Because I want to kind of β€œpeer-reviewβ€œ it first.

I might publish it on my researchgate profile. At least that’s intended.

Maybe a few lines about DragonFly BSD would be nice to add

Just found these posts when researching how to deploy a FreeBSD NAS with ZFS (currently running Debian, I’m new to FreeBSD)

Hope they are useful for somebody:

Building Your Own FreeBSD-based NAS with ZFS

Part 2: Tuning Your FreeBSD Configuration for Your NAS

Also, if not interested, just let me know and I’ll delete this message.

Building Your Own FreeBSD-based NAS with ZFSKlara Inc.
Building your own ZFS NAS on FreeBSD begins with researching NAS hardware, and that can get confusing quickly. While we can’t tell you what hardware to buy in an article, we can discuss some of the factors to consider as you research which hardware best meets your storage requirements.

Yes. I thought about this but my knowledge is lacking.

I’m really curious about DragonFly BSD, but first FreeBSD and OpenBSD… Next, maybe NetBSD and DragonFly BSD… Not enough time πŸ™

First, you have to have a story to tell, use all the variants of BSD, and each one you , important to analyze the source code. I still like 4.4BSD, rather than the poorly written code you have today, which I won’t go into detail again.

Have you written/discussed about this somewhere else that is accessible ?

this thread was nasty, it was in a hacker group, you don’t want to know what happened, it was not good at all.

I believe I would tend to agree with you … I am teaching myself C programming with a small program as a personal project.
I use st, surf, vi (no more ed), on OpenBSD.

sylvainsab 2022-08-03 02:42:56
So you would say that there’s poorly written code in the BSDs of today ? I haven’t consulted the cvs yet …

Great! It’s the only thing I have written about Unix for now, the rest is more abstract and philosophical. But I dream of teaching about technology in the humanities, trans-disciplinarity. I write for me and whom it may interest.

I’ll let you know, I might update it on researchgate.

Minecraft 1.19.1 is well played on FreeBSD. but hard to fix errors. missed a lot libraries, all of them are ported. used TLauncher (AUR Version) to run the game, so it works.

For a moment I was amazed on that APU on your screenshot being able to handle AAA games smoothly (:
