It’s just a more pleasant experience imo.

Of course that’ll vary from machine to machine and person to person.

Personally, I would like to know a mechanism of getting icons from apps, especially WINE ones, and different dialog windows which contain app lists, like “Open with” window.

There’s a Menu editor in KDE, for example, you can manually add a record for an app, give it an icon and path to executable file.

Many DEs have their ones, I guess.

alphaCL223 2022-07-13 18:11:23
Yeah
alphaCL223 2022-07-13 18:11:35
I think there is a way but I’m not sure

Yeah

kmenuedit for KDE.
Which DE do you use?

Remember, a shortcut is equal to command you type to launch an app, there’s no magic or “registering” an app on a system level.
Every python script or C executable you write in a minute is an app, you can have tons of them and none in an app launcher of your DE.

I would like a non repo app I have installed to show up in the apps menu for ease of use
sche91 2022-07-13 18:17:40
There should be a menu editor for Cinnamon.
Try right-click on a menu button?
Or wait for someone who uses it to guide you.
I’ve never used Cinnamon.
