well i have been told the same bullshit with windows and even with android phone (running custom rom). i guess in phones it kinda makes sense, but when we (at my company) do some repairs in warranty, we just take all the disks out of it because it has out data anyway and there is no need for them to have the disks

they can do the same with laptop

even changing disks in the laptop should not void the warranty

but idk about that… i mean if you don’t damage the thing you have problems with, and it is normal disk, why not

(you can erase big files if you have done any to keep the backup small as possible)
