Is it ok to make a new branch called develop and merge all users’ PRs to the develop branch and after a while, I merge the develop to main and add a tag and release then?

if it happened that would be good news to opensource and linux because there would be more vulnerabilities as compared to linux

Eurorra sent over one of their bespoke carbon fibre laptops for Linus to check out, but the wide Linus meme hand-crafted into the Linux laptop’s lid may have been a bad omen…

A git-related question. I have an open source project. I want users to be able to contribute to my project safely. I have tests. In Forking Strategy, there is only a main branch and all devs make PRs to the main branch. Is it ok to make a new branch called develop and merge all users’ PRs to the develop branch and after a while, I merge the develop to main and add a tag and release then? (Kinda like GitHubFlow)
IUsedToBeAli 2022-08-15 16:45:03
I can have hotfix then as well. I’m looking for a safe (all PRs get tested) solution which has lower possibility of conflicts and easy to understand for the new contributors.

I have seen this be done at my company. Dev branch which is like a sandbox. 2 issues i have noticed. Can become messy, and sometimes it gets so out of hand from main that they are scared to merge it and break functionality and literally now they use develop branch for prod lol 🤣🤣 I’m sure it’s possible to do it better
