It might be a bit of a diatribe sounding comment but it’s worth a read.

lemme explain:- there is no lack of pro coders in our country, the thing is, companies who are going to hire the people cannot invest in finding the true coders from the streets of India, so what they do is, they go to top colleges of the country and test their candidates there. It insures the company that they are getting cheap labour and in fact, the high IQ labour. but getting into the top colleges in the country is not the only choice you can have. you can strengthen your coding skills instead of mugging illogical shit like a rat but here’s the catch: the skills path is gonna be alot harder because alot (seriously alot of people are there who couldnt go to top colleges and code better than most of the people), so what will you choose: study hard in your teenage and get a “JOB” easily through campus placements or dont study and take the hard path and make your life more difficult
I’d choose option A
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:10:24
Honestly it makes sense where they’re coming from, yah if I had either learn through teenage years and start young with campus systems I’d pick that over the learn on your own if the pools aren’t usually crossing over when it comes to job placement.

Actually you got me wrong, my point is skill is more important than degree, if you have amazing skills but not a degree you can get a job but on the other hand, if you have a degree and not skill then you will be kicked from job
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:12:13
Heck I wish I could have done that, tried to but any attempts in my educational options were cut off/shifted before I got to the community college course for programming. There weren’t many but I wasn’t exactly able to access the online options, and I wasn’t even sure what my local options were back then since this was in the 90’s in a midwest suburb.

Skills are always greater than degree and college but the thing is, you gotta act according to your location. this line would be true if you are coming from a country where population is not in huge numbers, then it will be obvious to say that, but when you are coming from an overpopulated country like India, you gotta focus on both: skills and degree.

So young that I haven’t even got an option to choose between commers, science and arts

I still get a chuckle at how bass ackwards they were at teaching windows though, their choice was one of our two mac obsessed teachers so they were emulating Windows 3.0 on brown box macintosh machines. Touch typing was those simple IBM dummy terminal setups with local networks.

I can still learn even if I’m not young, it’s just seen a little differently in some circles. Especially the why as much as the how. I don’t want to learn any of this for some job or anything, I’m just a bit curious and really bored.
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:15:43
Did learn a little of really simple C style stuff, or similar, when messing around with open box, otherwise it’s just modifying existing code. Like replacing a location with my own, or making it output in a different format.

yes it is, but when you have almost no experience with programming trying to learn anything in a college course can be a bit daunting. So this is stuff I’ve picked up on my own.

just one suggestion: dont waste any time you have, you are young. if you work hard and educate yourself everyday (instead of wasting time on social media) you can attain great hieghts

you can educate yourself and be on social media, it’s just don’t go full tilt into the ‘social media star’ idea.
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:18:36
Or let what social media goes through effect your personal life, especially if it’s nothing to do with you directly.

I meant to say that, if you use social media for attaining knowledge than its great, but you know, nowadays social media is kind of evil
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:19:32
Best way I figured to keep it from effecting me is treat most stuff online like it’s just stuff on a screen, it’s not ‘real’ for you since you can’t exactly touch it, or taste it, or smell it yet.
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:19:44
It’s like watching a movie or listening/reading a book.

its real when you can see it.
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:21:31
yes but it doesn’t have to be directly effecting your life if you keep it at a distance. Say you see a news story about some famine in Timbuktu, or Tazmania, it’s not like you can really do anything to change it can you? Why let something that isn’t related to your life have as much influence as what you can actually experience directly. Either by going out and doing or by learning and using that to help you conceptualize the world around you.
cancrl18 2022-08-28 20:21:49
Yes it offers a different view on life but it doesn’t have to turn your life upside down.

Like forums and message boards existed of course, and BBS was still a thing to some extent even if not in the same sense. We’re talking around and a little before space jam era of websites.
