i just found out about pop os. it’s based on ubuntu, but has a newer kernel. ubuntu 5.15 i think and pop os 5.19. why is that? and which of the 2 distros would you recommend?

the most important reason I wont recommend ubuntu: bloat

I might use Ubuntu and allow all that tracking and such, but I was the guy who despite disliking it allowed a lot on Windows when I was using it. Just had various ways to bypass/ignore a few of those caveats.

The only things that got changed was the DE usually.

gnome + wayland configuration of fedora is way better than Ubuntu

I just stuck with Ubuntu because of what started me on Linux, had a weird option for screen the first time Linux was able to work for me and Ubuntu was the only distro that worked ‘out of the box’ on it. I’m also familiar with the commands and the limitations even though I’m glad Unity isn’t a required thing. Ubuntu Unity was.. unpleasant in the beginning.
