I’m not a fan of stability that debian brings, too old packages to have stability?

you are wrong here. you can configure arch like anything for your needs. you can modify it to be LTS, you can make it stable as fuck, the main difference between the distros you have mentioned is, Arch doesnt provide out-of-the box experience. you gotta learn how to configure your system yourself. and I am not using Arch Linux for bragging. I use Arch Linux for the customization it provides.

You absolutely cannot make Arch stable using the default repos, they violate the definition of stable system itself, having a system with an unchanging behaviour

Stable doesn’t mean usable or reliable, it means unchanging, that’s why distros such as Debian only offer patch updates to their software in a single release

When I started using linux ( when i was 15 or 16 ) i have wasted lots of valuable time by just distro hopping trying new DE, themes, Window managers …
But now I’m a bit mature ( now i’m 19+) so i don’t like these

Linus Torvalds, the father of linux still use Fedora from a decade. I think he is also not a linux material 🤔

Distro hopping is bad. do whatever you want bro. its your computer.

Default repos will not guarantee constant behaviour of software, hence the system by definition is unstable

DumbMahreeo 2022-08-30 18:35:59
I’m not saying that it is unreliable

DarknessHiddenorg 2022-08-30 18:36:23
sometime i want ui costumization and sometime i want performance and sometime i want distro that have rich apps in their repository

I define stable as always ready to use and with no issues. A stable patient means they are recovering, and unstable patient needs constant care and fixing.

You cannot define stable yourself, stable is a technical term

A patient has unstable conditions because they are constantly prone to change

DumbMahreeo 2022-08-30 18:37:49
The word stable in English means that
DarknessHiddenorg 2022-08-30 18:38:03
use snap then say”aw snap!”
cryptodanvr 2022-08-30 18:38:08
And as such need constant care and maintenance I dont have that on Arch

That’s not part of the definition of stable, software can be stable and reliable at the same time

DumbMahreeo 2022-08-30 18:38:39
Arch is unstable and (imo) reliable

by going to the definition of english, arch is unstable by default.

princegaut 2022-08-30 18:40:02
lmao
princegaut 2022-08-30 18:40:12
because it keeps updating the packages
princegaut 2022-08-30 18:40:33
how about a dead system with 5 year old packages thats what you call stable?

A stable system will still integrate patch updates

DumbMahreeo 2022-08-30 18:41:25
As long as they don’t alter the correct behaviour of the system
DumbMahreeo 2022-08-30 18:43:03
Arch always offers the latest stable release of every package in their repos, but different stable releases can actually change the behaviour, and Arch makes no guarantee on that.

They only guarantee to not give you beta software, but they do distribute different stable releases with different behaviour, which makes the distro unstable

Couldn’t find a better way to say “unstable software” without repeating myself

I’m a distro hopper too.
but as I have used linux for about 3-4 years.
I’m not a fan of stability that debian brings, too old packages to have stability? I’m a developer I want to use new packages and live the moment.
Arch is not unstable but it definitely is the responsibility of the user!
if you don’t use a pacman hook to update grub or whatever your bootloader is, then you may have a breakage when kernel gets update or Nvidia gets update
if you’re not aware of when postgresql updates it will lose permission to use that /var/…. directories read/write, so it will not work and you will have problem and so on.

you have to use arch when you know every corner of your system

India Tech Support 2022-08-30 18:50:37
Why not hop in container

Not really maybebe in 2000 that would apply.

India Tech Support 2022-08-30 18:50:59
It’s the easiest way for you to hop around different distros
mhfirouzjah 2022-08-30 18:52:31
I still need to find an answer for myself.
I thought manjaro is a good choice. not too much complicated not too much updates and it has access to AUR, everything seems good
