Math isnt science, imho

Proving theorems and postulates can be science

princegaut 2022-09-18 07:01:11
there are no physical experiments involved in Mathematics, unlike Physics and other sciences
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:01:56
physical experiments to be specific
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:02:06
Physics and chem can only be applied to this universe
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:02:14
math can be applied to anything we can imagine

there’s a debate involved duh

You never had to prove a theorem or postulate in math class?

princegaut 2022-09-18 07:04:59

You never had to prove a theorem or postulate in math class?

proving theorem is logic and abstract thinking. not science

cryptodanvr 2022-09-18 07:05:22
That’s science
cryptodanvr 2022-09-18 07:05:54
Scientific method involves proving something
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:07:33
ok you can think whatever you want, but for me, its not a science

Everything is interrelated in science. Maths being the fundamental one.

*logic and philosophy bangs the door down*

words are words. how do you define science?

smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:12:09
the scientific method is basically an extension of the kantian epistemological idea of knowledge acquired through synthetic a priori reasoning

words are words. how do you define science?

Science is: 1. the use of scientific method based on data gained from experimentation.
2. Using scientific method to create theories that explains natural phenomenons.
In math, theorems are logically proven, they have no relation to natural phenomenons happening in this universe. there are alot of renowned mathematicians that consider Mathematics as an Art, not a science. but the topic is still debatable

smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:16:03
in maths, theorems are analytically proven*
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:16:38
logic is just a part of reasoning
cryptodanvr 2022-09-18 07:17:42
And you use analysis in science to prove a hypothesis aka theory.
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:17:52
there are multiple ways to acquire knowledge, but mainly it boils down to two sets: knowledge you acquire through reasoning, and knowledge you acquire through your senses
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:18:01
of course, in practice we combine them
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:18:10

thats Application of Mathematics

princegaut 2022-09-18 07:18:30
just applying math into science doesnt mean that math is a science
cryptodanvr 2022-09-18 07:18:32
No that’s scientific method
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:18:41
there’s also a notion of when we acquire the knowledge. you can know something will happen, even before it happened, or you can learn it happened after seeing it
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:19:45
science orignally just meant knowledge, btw
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:20:03
aka the thing which by you explain stuff
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:20:29
science can be seen as knowledge, and math can be as a language to express stuff
princegaut 2022-09-18 07:20:34
a universal language
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:21:04
being able to sum together weights through the usage of arithmetics, and thus know whether it’s too heavy or not sounds like knowing stuff to me
Fuseteam 2022-09-18 07:21:16
That feels……..oversimplified tbh
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:22:08
although there’s generally a split between mathematics and science: mathematics is analytical, science is synthetical
Fuseteam 2022-09-18 07:22:23
Fuseteam 2022-09-18 07:21:16

“science is knowledge and math is the universal language to express it” i mean

smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:22:46
smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:22:08
although there’s generally a split between mathematics and science: mathematics is analytical, science is synthetical

they work together, pushing each other

smol_mazunki 2022-09-18 07:23:20
i don’t think it’s right to reduce science to the scientific method
