kind of doubt

there is not so much we can do. I prefer to vote with my wallet 😀

works with linux → buy

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:18:19

if it weren’t because of work, where i need minecraft education edition

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:18:50
I’d be the same
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:20:22
on a related note: i am pretty sure 90% of people don’t even need windows for anything

happy you.

I still have to run it a few times a month. managed to install LTSC edition in VM — much less headache now. no bloatware. fast and simple windows. as it should be.

how do you tell normies/noobs to install linux, and in general worry about what they put into their machines?

I am using arch – the same installation since Christmas 2016. The last windows installation which I nuked was around 6-ish months before that so basically sometime over 6 years

i combine arch and gentoo 😇

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:22:27
but haven’t been using windows for around the same time as you
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:22:36
with some exceptions, though

migration of normies to linux will just kill it.
more bloatware, more flatpacks, more other non-unix things.

once they’re with us, we can work with them

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:23:42
if they’re not around, that’s impossible
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:24:01
linux support will be ignored until there’s a decent userbase, which there isn’t

I installed Kubuntu on my dad’s laptop around 3 years ago. Has been so much better than before where random viruses would end up on Windows PC. He really just needs browser and office and Firefox and LibreOffice satisfy that need.

my dad is kind of a guru, and have used linux in the past (mostly on servers, though)

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:25:02
but now he refuses to use Linux because he just wants shit to work
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:25:07
he’s got a point xd
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:25:45
but most people only use their machines for YouTube, Facebook and checking their mail
Mike_Went 2022-07-21 17:26:01
ideally we should advertise already-dead-for-power-users distros like ubuntu.
I have no empathy to it at all. they can destroy it as they like, if I’ll get more quality linux-compatible software in arch repos in the end.
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:26:04
some use it for spreadsheets and documents, too, as you mention
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:26:14
but all that works fine
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:26:44

same story. bought mother a laptop, installed linux mint. many years passed, no problems whatsoever.
she uses it for movies, browsing, social networks, etc. one more happy pc user.

smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:29:34
I’d argue they’d be happier, even
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:29:45
less bloat => less lag, more performance
Mike_Went 2022-07-21 17:29:48
and you know how to fix anything if it breaks, even remotely
smol_mazunki 2022-07-21 17:29:52
and no viruses, either
