any compositor can choose to not implement anything for some functions

for instance, your compositor may not support transparency

so when an application requests to add transparency, nothing would happen

And so we are fucked as users?

use a compositor which implements most features as you want them

and if a feature doesn’t work as expected, request a fix

the main point is that applications shouldn’t need to implement transparency, for instance

this is messed up

it’s better to leave that job to the compositor, instead of the gamedevs and whatnot

I suppose sway won’t use blur so is a no for me then?

sway aims to be a complete compositor

so i would expect sway to implement it

is it complete? maybe not

but here’s a protip: make an issue on their github/lab, request it

if they see many people want it, they might focus on it

(or even better, start the implementation yourself)

it supports swaymsg, which i rely quite a bit on
